2021 Flippers Swim Schedule Update (Please read)

Flippers Families -

Please read this message in its entirety its lengthy, but important.  We've been presented with some opportunities to extend our summer schedule and have meets with other teams and we have decided to take advantage!

The schedule has changes you need to be aware of.  Our schedule is now listed on our website.

Practice Schedule has not changed:

The first day of practice is on Monday May 24th and will be M-F that week.  Practices will be M-F on days that we don't have meets all season until our last scheduled meet (right now the last practice will be June 25th - subject to Change).  We will not practice on Memorial Day 5/31.  Practice times are by age group and are listed on our website.  Make sure you bring goggles, drinks (water etc) for your children, towels and make sure they are in a comfortable competition type swim suit.  Kids can wear their team suits and caps at practice to get used to them.  We hope to have the new team suits, caps and team shirts at the first practice or sooner for distribution.

Meet Schedule:

The first three originally scheduled meet days/times/locations will remain the same - The first 3 Tuesdays of June - June 1, 8, 15.  These will be "virtual" intersquad meets that will just be our team at our pool.  These will be timed/scored meets but will be relatively low key and good to get a feel for how a meet runs and get the kids in the pool racing and comfortable with a meet structure as well as logged swim times they can work to build on for the first few meets.

Our 4th MEET IS CHANGING.   We will no longer have a home meet on 6/22.  Instead we have elected to have an away meet with our friends at West Haven subdivision in Franklin on Monday 6/21 at 4pm.  They are a new team this year and have a new pool.  Our two teams are both relatively large and this will likely be a big meet.  We will ask parents to do their best to avoid crowding the pool deck.  This means bring tents, umbrellas, chairs and spread out in the parking lot, tennis courts, grass etc so that we can respect each other's space (they have lots of room outside of the pool).  We will be using the swimmingly app and/or having an event announcer keeping everyone up to speed on when you should come to the pool deck for your child's event.

We are adding a 5th Meet:

We will have a 5th meet which will be Away vs Temple Hills on Monday 6/28 at 4pm.  Same request applies here with spreading out and respecting each others space.  For this meet, we are asking parents to please sign up for volunteer roles.  This can be done on the website under the "meet schedule" on the right side of the homepage by selecting the "job signup" button under the scheduled meet.  We cannot have this meet without the required parent volunteer roles being filled.

Championship Meet: Currently the league has said there is no championship meet scheduled.  If they do get released by the city/county and decide to schedule it, it will likely be on July 2,3 at the Brentwood pool.  In the past, anyone/everyone can participate in the championship meet.  Its a fun event.

Additional requests: To help the coaching staff plan the meets, please mark your availability status for each meet as soon as you know (so the coaches know if your child will be attending or not).  This can be done on the website under the Meet schedule on the right side of the page.  Do this for each Meet!  This is as simple as clicking the "Meet Entry" button under the specific scheduled meet, clicking "edit" and editing your status for each child (attending or not) and clicking save.

Swimmingly: We will all still be required to sign up via swimmingly and pay our $15 per child fee for the season.  I am waiting for them to release us to do so.  Please be on the lookout for an email with instructions to do this.  This is very important and mandatory for meet participation.  This is the software we use to run our meets and log swimmers' times.

Last: Pretty please let me know if would be willing to take an active role with running the swim team.  We really need a meet/volunteer parent coordinator (basically someone to take on everything that comes along with planning and setting up our meets).  Right now Amber, Heather and I are doing everything and its not sustainable for the future.

Thank you and we are excited for the flippers 2021!
